Bubble-Cable Headband For Kids and Adults

This is my first headband I knitted and designed last year for my then 3 years-old twins. One day at a knitting group, I ran out of project to knit. I didn't have a chance to find other project I really like, so I just play around with the cable pattern I found from an old knitting pattern book. It turned out to be a headband for one of my daughters because she wanted it. This pattern doesn't work quite well with variegated yarns but you could try and see how it works. The headband looks great on my girls and I think I will make a wider version for an ear warmer for myself! It probably work best using one color yarn, but the choice is yours. Here is the pattern.

Gauge : 4 or 5 stitches = 1 inch
Materials:

1. One skein of worsted weight cotton or acrylic yarn of your choice ( I used Veina White Lion Brand Yarn).
2. One pair of # 8 knitting needle or circular if preferred ( It is easier to travel with circular needle), or knitting needles that are appropriated for your yarn.
3. Tapestry needle.
4. Cable needle.

Direction:

Cast on 13 stitches. Knit one row.
Beging Cable pattern
Row 1 (right side) - k2, p2, slip next 2 sts into cable needle and leave them in front of work,
knit the next 3 sts. then knit the 2 sts from cable needle, p2, k2.
Row 2 (wrong side) - k4, p5, k4.
Row 3 - k2, p2, k5, p2, k2
Row 4 - as of row 2
Row 5 - k2, p2, k2, k1 *slip the knitted st on to left hand needle and knit a st*, repeat *-* 3 more times. You now have a chain of five sts in your right hand needle, k2, p2, k2.
Row 6 - as of row 2
Row 7 - as of row 3
Row 8 - as of row 2

Repeat row 1 to 8 until piece measure about 1 inch less than of your desire length. Then cast off. Sew end seems together with tapestry needle. Trim excess yarn off. Put your finished, lovely headband on you or your little one, look in the mirror and post. Enjoy!

Update: I just turned this headband into a hat by knitting in rounds with circular needles!
